Arterial Switch Operation

The arterial switch (Jatene) operation is typically done during the first week of life. The proximal portions of the aorta and pulmonary arteries are transected, the aorta is connected to the left ventricle, and the pulmonary artery is connected to the right ventricle. The procedure also involves reconnecting the coronary arteries so that the heart muscle receives oxygenated blood.
