Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Malar Rash)

This raised, erythematous, acute malar rash manifests in a photosensitive distribution. This "butterfly" pattern includes the bridge of the nose, the malar areas, the sun-exposed areas over the eyebrows, and the tip of the chin. Importantly, the nasolabial folds and the shaded areas under the eyebrows are spared.
