Episcleritis mimics conjunctivitis in appearance but causes much less tearing and no discharge. The ocular hyperemia of episcleritis involves only a segment of the globe (lateral aspect in this example), not the whole bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva as occurs in conjunctivitis.
