Among cancers, lung cancer is the most common cause of death in men and women. The number of deaths due to lung cancer has been decreasing in men and appears to be leveling off or decreasing in women after increasing for several decades. These trends reflect a decrease in the number of smokers over the last 30 years. In 2014, more than 158,000 people are expected to have died of lung cancer, about 86,000 men and 72,000 women. This number represents about 27% of all deaths due to cancer.
