A corneal ulcer (top arrow) may be accompanied by a large amount of dilated blood vessels in the conjunctiva, which gives the eye a bloodshot appearance. This photo also shows an accumulation of pus forming a white layer at the bottom of the cornea (hypopyon [bottom arrow]).
