  • Understanding Mitral Valve Stenosis

    video quality: regular | high

A normal mitral valve, seen on the left, regulates blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle on the left side of the heart. In mitral valve stenosis, seen on the right, the diseased mitral valve is narrowed and does not open as wide as it should. This defect partially restricts normal blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle.
