Reiki ˈrā-ˌkē

By Steven Novella, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Yale University School of Medicine

Reiki is of Japanese origin. In it, practitioners claim to channel energy through their hands and transfer it into the person’s body to promote healing. Practitioners are thought to have special healing powers, which are required for these treatments. Practitioners complete a course of training with the intention of developing the ability to direct healing energy to others. Practitioners either do not touch the client or make very light contact with fingertips.

The effectiveness of Reiki is not proved. It is safe.
