Chalazion

Topics Containing This Multimedia

  • Chalazion and Hordeolum (Stye)
  • A chalazion is caused by noninfectious occlusion of a meibomian gland. Irritating lipid material is extravasated into eyelid soft tissues, causing a focal inflammatory response. In its initial stages, a chalazion is clinically indistinguishable from a hordeolum.
