Episcleritis mimics conjunctivitis in appearance but causes much less tearing and exudate and scleritis also causes pain. The ocular hyperemia of episcleritis involves only a segment of the globe, not the whole bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva as occurs in conjunctivitis.
