Scleritis may be diffuse, nodular, or necrotizing. Diffuse scleritis mimics conjunctivitis or episcleritis with diffuse episcleral and scleral hyperemia; necrotizing scleritis is characterized by conjunctival ulceration with scleral necrosis, manifest as an avascular area.
