Basal cell carcinoma manifests as a superficial, slowly growing papule or nodule that may ulcerate. Basal cell carcinomas only rarely metastasize but are significant because they may become locally invasive, sometimes affecting vital structures such as eyes, ears, mouth, bone, or dura mater.
