The L2 type is characterized by medium-sized (14- to 18-μ) cells with more heterogeneity in cell size. These lymphoblasts have fine chromatin, nuclear indentation and tight folding in some cells, basophilic cytoplasm, and nucleoli. L2 lymphoblasts are distinguished from myeloblasts by the variation in size, more basophilic cytoplasm, and lack of granules. FAB = French-American-British.
