Definition of Dermatitis

Dermatitis is superficial inflammation of the skin characterized by redness, edema, oozing, crusting, scaling, and sometimes vesicles. Pruritus is common. Eczema is a term often used interchangeably with dermatitis but is sometimes used synonymously with atopic dermatitis.
