Prothrombin 20210 Gene Mutation

A mutation of the prothrombin 20210 gene results in increased plasma prothrombin levels and increases the risk of venous thromboembolism. Treatment, if necessary, involves anticoagulation with heparin or low molecular weight heparin, followed by warfarin.
