Mechanism of Action

Alters fungal cell wall membrane permeability; may interfere with RNA and protein synthesis, and lipid metabolism

Pharmacodynamics/Kinetics

Absorption: <10%

Metabolism: Hepatic to more than 20 metabolites

Excretion: Urine (<1%); feces (<1%)

Dosage

Children and Adults: Topical:

Tinea pedis: Apply sufficient amount to cover affected areas once daily for 1 month

Tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea versicolor: Apply sufficient amount to cover affected areas once daily for 2 weeks

Cutaneous candidiasis: Apply sufficient quantity twice daily (morning and evening) for 2 weeks

Administration: Topical

Occasionally, longer treatment periods may be required. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Monitoring Parameters

Reassess diagnosis if no clinical improvement after 2 weeks.

Patient Education

This medication is for external use only; avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, or other mucous membranes. Apply in sufficient quantity to cover affected area as often as directed by prescriber. Do not cover with occlusive dressings or wrapping unless otherwise directed. May cause temporary burning, itching, or stinging. Report if these persist, if condition worsen or persists, or if rash occurs.
