Introduction

Eating disorders are grouped into 3 categories: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS). Within EDNOS, provisional diagnostic criteria are provided for binge eating disorder. (See the American Psychiatric Association's Practice Guidelines: Treatment of Patients With Eating Disorders, 3rd Edition, and guidelines from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence [NICE].
