Barrett's Esophagus

Barrett's esophagus is replacement of normal squamous epithelium of the distal esophagus with metaplastic columnar epithelium during the healing phase of acute esophagitis. In this image, red-appearing bands of metaplastic epithelium can be seen extending proximally.
