This diarrheal disease of nursing piglets usually 5–10 days old has been associated with colonization of the small intestine with S dispar. Diagnosis may be aided by observation of gram-positive cocci adhered to the villous epithelial cells. Antibacterials such as penicillin should be useful in treatment.
