Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum) with inset

Bracken fern, growing from large dense woody rhizomes, forms deciduous, stipitate, erect to spreading fronds with nonanastomosing veins. The pinnae are stalked, opposite or subopposite (inset). Sori are present, although rare with partially concealed sporangia.
