Snakes are best sexed by probing. An appropriate-sized sexing probe is guided parallel to the tail, distal to and slightly lateral to the cloaca. Males have relatively deep (6-10 caudal scales) hemipenal pouches in which the hemipenes are normally contained. Females have shallow (<2 caudal scales) pouches due to the lack of hemipenes.
