Understanding Mitral Valve Regurgitation

    A normal mitral valve, seen on the left, regulates blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle on the left side of the heart. In mitral valve regurgitation, seen on the right, the diseased mitral valve fails to close completely, causing some blood to flow back from the ventricle into the atrium.
